A Holiday Rodent Infestation Can Ruin The Season

Rodents during winter

People are not the only ones who head inside when the temperatures fall during the holiday season.   All types of pests, especially rats and mice, want to keep warm, too. Your home is the best and most convenient place for rodents to do this.   Here are some things you can do to protect your home and family from a holiday rodent infestation.

How To Prevent A Holiday Rodent Infestation

The best way to prevent an infestation is to seal up the entry points. You also want to remove all sources of food and water that make your home very hospitable. Here are some simple steps you can take.

  • Rodents can squeeze through tiny openings. Fill any holes near utility cables and plumbing with steel wool and caulking around them.
  • Remove any nesting materials. Rodents are attracted to stacks of paper, folded up cardboard boxes, and shredded documents. Store your items in plastic bins.
  • Clean traces of food, such as crumbs or spills, on countertops and in sinks. Store food in plastic containers that rodents cannot get into.
  • Check for nesting spots around your home. Rats and mice may seek shelter in your car, woodpiles, or trees around your house. Some rats prefer your roof or gutters as it keeps them safe from ground predators.

Call on The Pros To Get Rid of Rodents

If there is any indication that your home has rodents, keep in mind that rats and mice reproduce very quickly. A pair of brown rats may have as many as 2,000 descendants in just a year. Rodents are also known for carrying several diseases that may harm pets, children, or even you. This means that as soon as you see a rodent or rodent waste, it is time to call the professionals to eradicate pests as soon as possible. Your best course of action is to call a rodent control professional for service as soon as you can.

Some people prefer DIY methods.  However, DIY rodent treatments will not completely eradicate a rodent infestation.  Professionals can identify specific species of rodents. This means they can develop and apply the most effective treatment method for your problem.
